In Corse, there are only two species from the Calamosternus subgenus: A. (C.) mayeri and A. (C.) granarius. They differs by morphology of head (clypeus). |

Costessèque (2005: Les Aphodius de France) doesn't consider A. (C.) algiricus a member of the French fauna. Whereas, Dellacasa & Dellacasa (2006: Fauna d'Italia) cite this species from Corse. Maybe this species really occurs in Corse. In Dellacasa & Dellacasa (2006) is good key to species in Italian and English. I think these specimens are A. mayeri, but for sure it's necessary to identify each specimen separately using the key - it's not possible only on the basis of these bad photos. |

The presence of Calamosternus algiricus in Corse (and, of course, in the French fauna) is a sure thing: “Haute-Corse, Casamozza (Aleria), 50 m, 21.X.1999, leg.
