Interesting. I was not aware of the presence of Aethiessa in W Turkey (is it the Beydag near Izmir?) Paramera look similar to A. floralis; the general look remind me the A. floralis of Israel (whatever it is...) or the small A. mesopotamica of the Syrian deserts. Anyway, not very wise giving an ID of such an Aethiessa on photos. I think the taxonomy of Aethiessa is a bit entangled, due to variability of populations. |

A. rugipennis? ![]() I don't think... I do not have my collection near me, but I am almost sure that A. rugipennis has paramera much more elongated. This evening I'll check an then I'll be able to give more details. Cheers, Marco |

After a direct comparison with paramera of A. rugipennis and A. mesopotamica of my coll. I can exclude both species. Paramera look very similar to that of A. floralis, and I see no other reasonable hypothesis. The locality is surely interesting. Shall we think to an so far unknown population, far away from the rest of the known range, or to a passive introduction? ![]() Larvae survive in quite dry and sandy soil, provided there is some organic matter or dung mixed. |

I have no informations about the locality, except the fact that the colleague who caught them is really trustworthy... Stéphane |
