Spagna, Sierra de Guadarrama, Balsain (Segovia), 27.IV.1986, M. Ortego leg.

C. martinezi is not present only in central Spain, it occurs also in northeastern part of Iberian peninsula. It's known from provinces of Pontevedra, Orense, Segovia, Madrid and Ávila.
In the Museum of Nature and Human Activities, Hyogo Pref., Japan, there is one specimen of C. martinezi labeled "France, Corse, 12.VII.1968". It would mean that this species is not endemic for Spain.

Strange record and very strange collecting month - July - for a winter beetle. Also C. rossii (Jekekl, 1866) is recorded at least twice from Corse (old records: Mulsant & Rey, 1871; Boucomont, 1912). Don't you think there are too many Ceratophyus species in the island?

Yes, Stefano, it's strange. Maybe there is only one species but in one or two cases badly determined. Collecting month July is strange too but in Corse many of coprophagous species have very unusual period of its occurrence. E.g., my colleague collected Aphodius satellitius in August in Corse (Col de Bavela), together with A. porcus!
