Hi Peter, first of all A. solstitiale has a different form of the body, the apical part of elytra is somehow wider than in A. assimile. Also the protibia of solstitiale is monodentate, in assimile the protibia has usually 3 teeth at the outer edge. In Italy occurs also A. burmeisteri, which morphologically looks almost identical with assimile, but a good way to split out these species is the ethology of flight : assimile flies at daylight, above the low vegetation, while burmeisteri flight at dusk at trees level. ![]() |
