 in north of Greece this was the commonest Scarabaeus. was interesting to observe this one on work. I don't know why but in Romania this species is mainly a nocturnal one... so this one collected in north-east of Greece, Thracia (41.304526/26.094544) in 18.may.2010, size of this male is 25 mm. cosmln |

We found pius (Illiger) really common near Konitsa: tens of specimens either flying over the grass and hardly working!! |

Maurizio, do u know difference between typhon and pius ? Yes: pius is the only species WITHOUT a furrow on posterior margin of pronotum. |

this days I have prepared some more specimens of Scarabaeus and just realized that I have IDed wrongly this one. in fact this is Scarabaeus pius (Illiger, 1803). sorry for this mistake.  soon will come with some photos of Scarabaeus typhon. and to complete this, Scarabaeus pius (Illiger, 1803) - another male (a better photo) and his genitalia. this male collected in north-east of Greece, Thracia (41.324481/26.019188) in 19.may.2010, leg.
