Dorytomus longimanus, male

This species was not listed from Turkey in "COOPERATIVE CATALOGUE OF PALAEARCTIC COLEOPTERA CURCULIONOIDEA"

However, this circumstance doesn't mean that D. longimanus doesn't distribute there

So it is a new record for the fauna of Turkey! There are many species from different orders that are very widely distributed and common but have not been recorded from Turkey so far. It is possibly because of the lack of extensive field researches.

One more record for this species from Turkey, before 20 years:
Sinasos / Mustafapaşa (Cappadokia), early July 2000, 1 specimen.

We´d love to collect there but it has become almost impossible :/ Otherwise I´d spend there 3 weeks every year.

Believe me, we are in the same situation. Even Turkish entomology professors are fined with more than 10.000 Euros if they are caught collecting even a single specimen without permission from the ministry. The fine goes up to 20.000 Euros if the specimen is collected in a National Park.

This is exactly the bad situation for which knowledge does not progress. Perhaps politicians worldwide do not want people really knows how much life is being quickly destroyed everywhere.
Anyway, your nice beetle is truly a Dorytomus longimanus.
