I would not say G. luristanus (which is always black and - as far as known - only present in Iran), but G. festivus, which is variable in colour and often blue. However, I am puzzled by the locality. Is it Karaman on Toros Daglari, between Kony and Mersin? G. festivus is widespread in E Turkey (Malatya, Erzincan, Erzurum, Van, Bitlis, Kars...), but I have never seen specimens from Central Turkey/Taurus. In addition, G. festivus has usually lines of light hair on elytra (see here viewtopic.php?f=248&t=16297). However, this is not very important, since hairs can fall quite easily. Did you collect other specimens? Do they have all the same appearance (no light hair)? |

As said before, I have never seen specimens of G. luristanus. Well, I certainly have a much, much less experience with Glaphyridae then Marco. Specimen shown in the picture appears to be in good condition (eg hair pygidium), so no traces of blond hair on the elytra seemed to me to be an important feature, such as the lack of black hair on disc of pronotum. I'm curious myself how it ultimately proves to be a species. |

phalops ha scritto: such as the lack of black hair on disc of pronotum. Actually, presence/absence of hair should be the main diagnostic character between luristanus and festivus. However, I would not bet on the absence of hairs on this specimen. In G. festivus they should be present, but they are short and mainly present on the antero-lateral part of pronotum. As you can see in the other discussion I linked, hairs are not visible in photo, althoug they are present. |

Not pair, A - females, B - males, as on last photo. I admit that the determination by Marco is correct. |

Because there is one year between the take of samples and they are in different places. I just take the famele photo and I add it below. I hope that I am not make a mistake...

Hi Ozgur, Phalops/Jacek is correct. Specimens A are females and specimens B are males. You can easily see the difference in the shape of posterir legs, which are much longer in males. See this photo: male on the left, female on the right. http://www.insecte.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16525 |
