Is this synonym with Paralister inaequalis?

You're doing a bit 'of confusion :
Paralister is one of the subgenus of Margarinotus.
I think you meant to say Pachylister (Pachylister) inaequalis (Olivier, 1789).
Pachylister and Pactolinus (ex Macrolister) are two distinct genders.

Thank you. The last book I was using was Freude, Harde and Lohse, the first edition, where there it was named Paralister inaequalis. Before of this, I knew this species under the name Hister inaequalis. So, my knowledge about this group is quite ancient.

Could you do a scan of the page with the mentioned "Paralister?
Certainly in the old bibliography, Pachylister, Pactolinus, Margarinotus, Atholus and many others, were still referred to by their original generic name Hister.

Well, I am answering now. First, it was my erroneous mind, the species inaequalis is mentioned here as Pachylister, but exists the genus Paralister Bickh., which contents the following species: stercorarius (Hoffm.), bipustulatus (Schrk.) (=fimetarius Hbst.), purpurascens (Hbst.), ventralis (Mars.), neglectus (Germ.), ignobilis (Mars.) and carbonarius (Hoffm.).

BTW Pactolinus major (L.) is cited here as belonging to the genus Macrolister Lew.

Dear Adrian, as I thought, these are bibliographic outdated data, and taxonomy is somewhat changed.
Paralister is a subgenus of Margarinotus, and you can find the Italian species in my catalog, posted here on the Forum.
(This catalog is drawn - as written - from the electronic version of the World Catalogue of Histeridae. - The last taxonomic update of this catalog, dates back to February 22, 2011)
Macrolister is now Pactolinus.
Also Pachylister is now splitted into three genus and two subgenus: P. (Pachylister), P. (Sulcignathos), Nasaltus and Santalus.
I hope that now everything is more clear!
