Ciao,

# 4457 ♀ captured at an altitude of 415 m. in Cne : Anost (Dépt. Saône et Loire - France) - 26.05.2008

This capture is Tenthredo s.l..
- The abdomen is black and there is a white spot on each side of 1st tergite (see the photo)
- The antennae are black & white.
See on the photo, the aberration on the antennae (dorsally one is black, the other white)
It thus acts of sub-genus Tenthredella.
- The tegulae are black.
- The stigma of forewings are bicolorous : piceous or brown with his base white or yellow.
Thus it is the species livida.
- The abdomen is dorsally black, it is the var. dubia
According to my captures, this var. is much more frequent than the species typus ♀.
To supplement what I wrote in this message, I never found of ♀ without the white spot on the metapleurae.

Finally :
Tenthredo (Tenthredella) livida var. dubia ♀ Che vive anche in Italia

Saluti.

I don't understand anything about this group, but I like very much to read how you reach the identification of your specimens. Very useful! :ok:

Ciao,
Thanks for your question.

Dice the origin (not knowing anything the whole to their classifications) I have classified our captures on the criterion of the color of the abdomen.
Thus I have obtained several classes of Symphyta: A1, A2,… thus n1 classes.
Then I have classified each Ai on the criterion of, the presence or not, the shape of certain veins of the wings,
    and I have obtained several groups : A1 (B1, B2,…) , A2 (B1, B2,…) ,…, thus n1 x ∑(n2) groups.
Later I bought the Berland which has only very little (even at all) modified my classification, thus I did not modified it .
Then I sought to identify Symphyta of each group.
I thus bought the 3 "RES handbooks" of Benson (complicated for a beginner) which enabled me to distinguish from the other fundamental criteria (mainly : clypeus, tarsal claws), but they did not modify my groups.
During my readings, I learned that the Berland was incomplete and "riddled" with errors.
I thus found or bought :
- The "Répertoire des Tenthredinidae… " of Lacourt, whose the synonymies helped me much.
- The Bible : "Die Tenthredinoidea Mitteleuropas" of Enslin, which enabled me to supplement the Berland and to rectify its too many errors.
- The "Keys of the insects… Symphyta" of Zhelokhovtsev (in Medvedev), very useful for all the families (except Tenthredinidae, because the colourings are used little and thus do not allow easily to compare the keys of this author with those of Enslin).
In addition : New western-European species were identified by Chevin or Lacourt (French authors) and I could easily get their writings (not all of Lacourt, but Merci with Mr. Chevin which my given several offprints from its work)
All these texts me enabled of elaborated some personal keys (such the 4 , that I already sent to the Forum).

Thus I could identify (I hope…) some of our captures with readings … while supplementing with the old texts, which I found with the help of this essential and fundamental Internet.
Alas, living far from Paris or Lyon, I do not have access to the national entomological collections.

Answered I to your question ?

Saluti.
