A ventral view would be help. A photo of the epigyne would be the best. Metellina is a genus with highly variable coloration.

Unfortunately the picture is not clear. I'll show you the difference between the two species.

Metellina mengei
The epygine is crossed by the black band.

Metellina segmentata

The black band stops at the epigastric furrow. The area of epygine is lighter than the band.

Probably it's Metellina segmentata

Thanks Carlo, I hope tomorrow I can find this specimen and I will try to obtain a better photo with the epigine.
About your english, don't worry, as you easy can see my englis is not very good ;)

Io darei il peso della bilancia dalla parte di Metellina cf. segmentata :oooner:

Con tutti i limiti del caso, ovviamente, ho provato a schiarire la foto e si nota una differenza di colore nella banda...

...scura la parte che si ferma prima del del solco epigastrico B e più chiara dopo A.

Secondo me se la banda fosse stata dello stesso colore, nella foto si sarebbe in ogni caso evidenziata. Un Metellina cf. segmentata (Clerck 1757) - Tetragnathidae ci può stare :D

Cosa ne pens Carlo?

Il fatto è che, per consuetudine, se non son certo della specie rimango al genere. Penso infatti che una probabilità non è una determinazione, è un'indicazione piu che altro. :D Però vedo che su queste pagine il cf. è molto usato e quindi, come ben dici, si potrebbe anche usare. Nonostante questo la specie rimane comunque dubbia in quanto le foto, e la mia competenza, non permettono di averne certezza.
