Buongiorno!

In may in Cefalù (Sicilia) I collected several Attalus specimens, of which some have a very clear black band on the pronotum, as I expected from Attalus sicanus. But the other half has an all red pronotum as this one here. I labeled them "Attalus cyaneus", but then I saw in this forum, that A. sicanus also occurs without black spot.

What is the difference between them? Perhaps color of tibiae? And then I saw that Attalus dalmatinus is also listed for Sicily and also looks very similar.

Length is 3,8 mm.

Grazie
Michael

hi, it is A. sicanus, because of yellow tibiae (dark in cyaneus). Pronotum can be partly dark or entirely red, particularly in females.

A. dalmatinus is not present in any part of Italy as far as we know. You can see it here: http://www.entomologiitaliani.net/public/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=432&t=85063.
