Two Eupithecia from Catalonia in mid-August. Any ideas what they might be? Same locality at about 450 metres.

Hello Matthew, always remaining in the case of assumptions  , I suggest for the first Eupithecia pauxillaria Boisduval 1840 or Eupithecia pimpinellata (Hübner 1813), two species are very similar and separable only on examination genitalia in laboratory.While for the second Eupithecia weissi Prout 1938, here a picture very similar to the individual picture in your photo

Hi Claudio, thank you for these suggestions. I have checked the distributions in Spain and apparently E.pimpinellata is mainly restricted to the Pyrenees at higher altitudes which may be a useful clue for the first one to be more likely pauxillaria. Whereas E.weissi seems a real possibility for the second. Thank you! Matthew
