Today we'll talk about the legendary beetle in the European Union: Osmoderma ssp. ;)
I will not write about its systematic position. I will say here is that in Poland there is a Osmoderma barnabita sensu Audisio et all, 2007.

This beetle in Poland is seen quite often. Usually develops in deciduous trees such as willow (Salix spp.), oak (Quercus spp.), linden (Tilia spp.), and others. During the tests within the NATURA 2000 program in 2006-2007 in Mazovia I myself have found more than 20 new localities of the species. It is found in the forests, as well as the old, sick trees along the roads.

Osmoderma barnabita:
Polska, Warszawa, small forest near Modlińska street,
21 VII 2012, leg. (larvae and imagines), det. A. Woźniak

Below are some photos on his life.

Francesco, Alessandro - thank you! :birra:

Antonio - I can explore the species, but I can not collect specimens - neither larvae nor imagines, because in the EU (especially in Poland) Osmoderma spp. is strictly protected !!!

No problem, Antonio! :birra:
I understand how many scientific naturalists interested in Osmoderma spp., and would like to know about them as much as possible.
And so much to learn, you need to have the material, and the material to work with. :bln:

Dear all, I was asked by Pierre Tauzin to add his following comment.

May I ask you to add the 2 attached pdf files concerning the taxon , in the following post for the information

It's strange to use the name of Motschulsky for one Omoderma species in West Europa , and I don't understand
why some entomologists have suggest this choice !!.
If you read the paper of Motschulsky (1860) , the autor write (in French) that he has done one mystake
with the locality of the first O. barnabita describe in his 1845 pup, and correct the locality (locus typicus) .

Please, look at the color picture of O. barnabita (drawing of Motschulsky) attached in the 1860 'pdf.

Yes, it seems that O. barnabita is a synonyme of O. coriarium De Geer, 1774. The same as Osmoderma septentrionale Tauzin, 1994. See Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera, vol 3: 308 (2006) :birra:
