Soooo, after a really good expedition with one nice dutch guys, I thought that I have to share my experiences.

Cyprus is really a beautiful place to visit ! " Trouble free " collecting, english speaking people, no hassles with wild camping and full of Insect. Rent a car is quite cheap too. We paid 250 E for 8 days for 4x4 Daihatsu. We drove from south to the north and from the west to the east without no problems. Collecting is really enjoyable, not like in other countries, where you have to watch your back. We have visited many different biotops, like dry sand places in the east ( Protaras, Agia Napa ), coastal areas around Limassol, middle altitude places around Kato Lefkara, even high altitudes in Troodos Mountains. The most interesting place was around Kato Lefkara ( 12 sp of Cerambycids, many Buprestids, etc in ca 2km2 ) ....really amazing place.

Parecchi anni fa sono stato una settimana a Cipro a fine aprile, con mio padre e Cesare Iacovone. Bei posti, ma abbiamo avuto una settimana di pioggia e freddo. Solo il giorno della partenza è tornato il sole!

ok all right... but what about left side driving? this is indeed the main reason that prevented me, until now, from planning a collecting trip in cyprus

Thank you, " Julodis Maurizio " . What a shame. We had the rain just last two days. Well, it wasnt that bad, we just had to follow the sun.

Maurizio - - I got used to it here in England...to be honest, I can`t really see the difference. You just have to be careful by taking the exists from/to the main road. Other than that, the road wont let you go in wrong direction.
Much worse for me was, when I got this Daihatsu with automatic gearbox. I had no idea what to do with it and when stopping, my left foot gone automatically on break and right on gas ( like clutch and break )...first day we almost jumped out a few times from the front window, because breaking with left foot aint really a good idea but after a few days...rally Cyprus

Maurizio, il problema più grave, quando si va in posti con la guida al contrario, oltre al fatto che anche anche il posto di guida è a contrario e bisogna fare l'occhio a ingombri simmetricamente opposti, se non si vuole andare a sbattere da qualche parte o guidare in mezzo alla strada, è che quando poi torni in Italia per un po' ti viene da guidare al contrario! Sia al ritorno dal Kenia che da Cipro per un po' mi veniva istintivo tenere la sinistra, e sulle strade di Roma non è igienico!

Per quanto riguarda Cipro, oltre al problema della guida al contrario c'è anche da dire che la viabilità interna, sul Troodos in particolare, non è proprio bellissima.

Concordo con Zdenko che portare una macchina con cambio automatico non è proprio facilissimo, non tanto per il cambio, quanto per la mancanza del pedale della frizione, per cui col piede destro si preme l'acceleratore, col sinistro il freno, mentre con cambio manuale acceleratore e freno si azionano col piede destro e la frizione col sinistro. In Turchia, una volta che ero là con Baiocchi, ogni volta che mi distraevo un attimo e mi trovavo in una situazione in cui su una macchina con cambio manuale avrei premuto la frizione, premevo invece il freno, bloccando di colpo le ruote! Poco piacevole.
