Hi,

Me again here with some beetle to ID.
This carabids always puzzle me
So... this one was collected in 1.august.2010 in Moldova (46.428056 / 26.440833), leg. Alexandru Pintilioaie (alexaandru), size is ~14 mm.

Is possible to put an ID from photo?

To me it looks like Harpalus (Pseudohophonus) calceatus (Duftschmid, 1812). The species, previously attributed to the subg. Pardileus, is near H. rufipes, but with elytra completely glabrous and with blackish legs.

Hello Cosmin,
to me it looks very much like Pseudoophonus (Platus) calceatus (Duftschmid 1812). It should have 9th interval of elytra and part of 8th pubescent, not easy to see it in photo...

I will try to make a photo from a ventral lateral angle to see better the elitra... I have not seen any pubescence there.

Don't worry, it is certainly it, although we have used two different nomenclatures! Two names - one species.

Pseudoophonus (Platus) calceatus (Duftschmid 1812) is in FaunaEU and Harpalus (Pseudohophonus) calceatus (Duftschmid, 1812) in Lobl & Smetana... which one is accepted today?

Sorry, it was my mistake to write Pseudohophonus: the correct name is Pseudoophonus. The use of Pseudoophonus (Platus) calceatus (Duftschmid 1812) in FaunaEU derives from a more "splitting" vision of systematics, while that of Harpalus (Pseudohophonus) calceatus (Duftschmid, 1812) in Löbl & Smetana comes from a more "lumping" approach. I personally prefer to keep the Pseudoophonus-lineage separate from the "true" Harpalus, but it is a matter of personal preference. Really there is no general agreement about it.
