Habitus of this species is very interesting: males are similar to sbgn. Aphodius s.str., while females are similar to sbgn. Ammoecius.
Just I keep at disposition photo of male (from ZIN.ru) only, but later I'll give here some photo of female from my collection from Hungary.

Adults of this species live in totally dry dung of cattle (last year's), especially in April. Literature data on its phytosaprofagous bionomy are mistaken. I have collected about 250 specimens of A. frater in Hortobágyi N.P. in Hungary, where the beetle is locally common.
