Ciao,

Trovato con questa occasione, nel legno marcio. Lì già postato foto in natura con questa specie, ora lo stesso esemplare (l'unico trovato) preparato - femmina di Ampedus quadrisignatus (Gyllenhal, 1817) .

Cosmin, it really looks like Ampedus elegantulus for me. I saw hundreds of A. elegantulus and tens of A. quadrisignatus, yours strongly seems to be the first (most common) one. You should ask J. Mertlik on the Czech forum or Giuseppe Platia.

i have no idea on Elateridae, this is the first time that I hear about A.elegantulus . The ID was not infirmed by Giuseppe Platia here, so I have continued on the same idea .

Now looking at the photos of A.elegantulus on Lech's website I think that you are right about the ID, still a new one for me .

You are welcome Cosmin. I do not understand why G. Platia wrote you A. quadrisignatus on that thread. That one is also A. elegantulus, they can be clearly separated. Black spots on the edge of the elytrae on A. quadrisignatus never absent. And in average A. quadrisignatus is bigger than 10mm. For comparison also see these pages:

I think you can always ask J. Mertlik, he is a great expert on this genus.

I think it is useless to argue who is the greates expert.The more important is that Giuseppe Platia is present on this forum.
And yes,it is A.elegantulus,so what?Everebody makes mistakes.

Agreed. Everybody makes mistakes. That's why I told Cosmin could ask someone else. And I didn't tell Mertlik is the greatest. I only told he is great. What doesn't mean Platia is not great. Sorry.

Detto fra noi Cosmin, a me sembrava l'elegantulus (che ho preso relativamente spesso in Grecia) ma visto che Platia non aveva "sconfermato" mi sono astenuto dal commentare. Oltretutto che io sappia il quadrisignatus è decisamente più grande di statura.
